Sony Xperia M5 Review

The Sony Xperia M5 is a capable smartphone that despite its price, still manages to beat a couple of midrange smartphones of this generation in sales. Of course it comes with some killer features and specs and you are about to find out whether it’s just good on paper or it does fulfill its end of the bargain. The Sony Xperia M5 succeeds the M4 Aqua and given that it was released just a few months ago, it means it wasn’t rushed but rather recreated. Let me break down for you.

So we begin with the design and build where you wouldn’t expect Sony to be lacking given their good reputation with the Xperia line of products. Other than a few changes here and there especially in the arrangement, there is nothing strikingly new about the Sony Xperia M5 when compared to other Xperia Phones. This is not a bad thing given that Xperia phones are known to have high quality designs.

If you are a selfie lover, then you would definitely fall in love with the 13 megapixel front facing camera that comes with the Sony Xperia M5. This is a significant upgrade given that the original M4 Aqua only had five megapixels of camera power on the front facing camera. When it comes to handling, the Sony Xperia M5 is perfect and feels incredibly easy to carry around.

Except for the selfie lovers, those who like to watch movies and play games on their smart phones would also most likely like the Sony Xperia M5. It has one of the most amazing displays boasting 1080p full HD resolution but is only 5 inches wide. However, it produces 441 pixels per inch which can be seen as one of the top end features of 2015 in a smart phone.

When it comes to the camera, you will ask for the Sony Xperia M5 if you are an enthusiast photographer. Apart from the 13MP front facing camera, the M5 comes with a rear 21.2MP shooter that’s just fine to get your photography mood on. When it comes to color accuracy, they M5 wins in most cases while the still images appear sharp. Even when it comes to the video recording, the Sony Xperia M5 was capable of beating some high-end smart phones such as the Samsung galaxy note 5 and the Asus Zenfone Selfie. Basically, the Sony Xperia M5 produces sharper images and an excellent focusing speed.

If you’ve been interested in the latest 4K craze, then you should consider the Sony Xperia M5 as its capable recording 4K video as well. It is possible due to the MediaTek Helio X10 chipset incorporated into the M5.

When it comes to the software and performance, don’t expect much from the Sony Xperia M5 if you have already used the Sony Xperia Z3+. It inherits everything from the Z3+ other than the Xperia theme. However, the Sony Xperia M5 has that high-end feel when compared to other Xperia models. When it comes to the audio, you really need a set of headphones since the sound quality isn’t that amazing. However, the battery life is just as awesome as the Z3+.

  • Pros:
good battery life. Good camera. Classic design.
  • Cons:
    Non removable battery
